The Tortoise and The Hare

The Tortoise and The Hare | DY Books

Once upon a time, in a peaceful forest, there was a tortoise and a hare. The hare was a very fast runner, while the tortoise was slow and steady. The hare was always bragging about how fast he was, and how no one could beat him in a race.

One day, the tortoise got fed up with the hare's boasting and challenged him to a race. The hare laughed and said, "Sure, I'll race you. But don't think for a second that you can beat me."

The two competitors lined up at the starting line, and the race began. The hare took off like a rocket, leaving the tortoise far behind. The tortoise, however, did not get discouraged. He kept moving at his own pace, one step at a time.

The hare was so far ahead that he decided to take a nap. "This race is a piece of cake," he thought to himself. "I have plenty of time to rest." And so, the hare fell asleep.

Meanwhile, the tortoise kept plodding along. He was determined to finish the race, even if he didn't win. Slowly but surely, he made his way towards the finish line.

When the hare woke up, he saw the tortoise in the distance. "Oh no," he said to himself. "I slept too long. The tortoise might actually win."

The hare started running as fast as he could, but it was too late. The tortoise had crossed the finish line first, winning the race.

The hare was shocked. "How did you do it?" he asked the tortoise. "I'm faster than you. I should have won."

The tortoise smiled and replied, "Slow and steady wins the race. You were too busy bragging and taking naps. I just kept moving forward, step by step."

The hare learned an important lesson that day. He realized that being overconfident and not taking the race seriously had cost him the victory. The tortoise, on the other hand, had remained focused and determined, and that had led him to success.

From then on, the hare was more humble and respectful towards others. And the tortoise continued to plod along at his own pace, knowing that slow and steady would always win the race.
